Monday Ramblings

Well, hello Monday! I guess it was inevitable that after a week on vacation we are back at it in full daily routine mode. I’m planning on telling you all about our vacation to Scottsdale later but I will tell you this much- it was really sunny, really hot and a lovely break from our daily reality. I’ll give you all the details in the next week or so- where we stayed, what we did and what we learned.

Our return from Scottsdale was made a bit easier since Mimi and PawPaw were at our house waiting for us.  They had dinner ready, Easter baskets completed, eggs stuffed and our refrigerator full. Honestly, that took a ton of stress off my plate. Seriously, we had a 2 hour delay leaving Phoenix so the travel day home was long.

We had our first Easter Egg Hunt at our house and it was so much fun. Cate and Brady are so compeititive and so in to the spirit of holidays.  5.5 and 3.5 are pretty awesome ages.  Look at his face (taken from my instagram account).

Easter

I can’t believe that April is already here! I guess that is great news since we are on the final countdown to summer vacation and all the fun that comes with it. The beach, the pool, the lazy mornings and long nights outside.

April is a really hectic month for us.  Full of good stuff but it’s hard when you have been gone for 7 days to not feel overwhelmed when you get back. I have to do lists inside to do lists that I need to tackle.

I want to tell you about my Orangetheory obsession and what I’ve been reading.

But for now, Happy Monday folks!

Monday This and That

I went home this weekend after my parents returned from a 2 month stint in Arizona.  The trip served a dual purpose- to cheer on the New Trier Girls Basketball Team at the Final Four State Tournament and to visit Mimi and PawPaw.  What is it about driving down I-55 that makes my shoulders loosen a bit, my breathe to slow down and a feeling of peace to come over me?

15 schools days until spring break.  I’m counting.  I’m list making. I’m checking the weather forecast daily and I am ready.  Just ready for a week away from the world with my three favorite people.  I’m dying to buy this cover-up.

We have slowly been working on our house after the major kitchen remodel we did last year.  I have had my heart set on painting our fireplace for a year.  Glenn finally agreed.  He is actually really handy so imagine my excitement when I got this picture and then the second one.  Love it. I have all these ideas to decorate the mantel for spring!

Monday Memo 1/5/14

It’s the first Monday in January which tells me you need an update on life here in our parts.  I think I have a lot to share so let’s get started shall we?

~ The kids have started sleeping later and we are all better for it. There is something so therapeutic about getting out of bed when there is a 7 on the clock.  The mornings have become lazy and lovely.  Am I right? Just in time to go back to the school routine I know.

~ We went sledding at Flick Park in Glenview on Saturday. First of all, there are actual steps up to the top of the hill which was amazing.  It was a bit icy and got crowded but boy did we have fun! Brady had this look of pure joy on his face every single time he came down the hill and even went down by himself.

~ Our kitchen renovation is becoming real. We bought all new appliances are looking at lighting and seem to be waiting for March when the demo begins.  This reminds me I need to show you some other spaces in our home.  I wish I could show you the drawings but I think the before and after will be pretty exciting.

~I have seen more snow fall over Winter Break than I ever want to see again.  It was pretty for a few hours but after the constant need to keep up with the removal and the bitter cold temps I am over it.  I know we live in the Midwest but the extremes lately have been a lot to handle.  Glenn has carried the majority of this burden, but I am tired of cold mud room floors, slushy gross feet and constant monitoring of ww.weather.com.  No school Monday might just send me over the edge.  I am all for a snow day but not after a two week break.

~ We played Cards Against Humanity on NYE with good friends. Have you played? Holy cow is it funny. And so not appropriate.  But dang did we laugh a lot.

~ This week is nuts. During and after school.   I have to work late Tuesday but get to hear an awesome speaker named Adam Grant.  His book is so interesting and I am really excited to hear him talk.  Wednesday and Thursday nights we have Academic Life which is hard on me and my kids and my husband.  Luckily, the rest of the month is pretty quiet and thank goodness I live so close!

Hope you have a great week! I will be back with a heavier post later this week. Happy Monday! Did you survive the snow? Have you dug out? Thawed out? Enjoy your week!

Monday Memo

Happy Monday Friends! After last week being relatively easy with two days off of school, this week is going to hurt a bit. On the upside, my parents are coming up on Wednesday and spending the night before they head to the PGA tournament in Lake Forest so that will help get us through a five day week.  Let’s get this memo started shall we?

  • I am starting to panic about Halloween already. Our neighborhood goes all out for every holiday but Halloween was a shock to us! People do creative, amazing and full blown decorating for Halloween. And we did nothing last year. So, we started to strategize and got a plan this weekend.  It is not going to be be fabulous but it is a start.  Now to execute…

  • Let’s talk about the weather. Middle of September and it is going to be in the mid 90’s.  Really? Where was this weather in July? So annoying.  The upside is that I can still wear some cute summer transition to fall stuff that I haven’t worn yet for my #ootd series.

  • Have any of you followed the 40 Days of Dating blog? I caught it on twitter one day, starting reading over the summer and have been hooked ever since. Except it stopped.  Supposedly because they signed with an agent and have some kind of movie deal in works. Boo. I was so disappointed. Then, I go and check today and blamo it is up… all 40 days and it’s over. And I’m sad.  Please if you are going to read it, start from day 1.  That means you need to start at the bottom of the screen. So interesting. And apparently there is more coming.  I am hoping the ending is not cliché.

  • Working out at 5am week 3.  And guess what? I actually love it. I go to bed a bit earlier but I find that I am more productive and less sluggish when I work out in the morning. I am also less antsy in the afternoon since I know my workout is done for the day.

Enjoy your week!

Monday Memo

~Kids. School. Daycare. Sickness already.  All words that are back in my vocabulary and making life really challenging right now.  I love being a teacher but I am really struggling with finding my stride as a working mom again. It is my choice to work- Glenn is indifferent and for the first time ever in my entire life I am asking myself the question why? And to be honest, I don’t have a good answer. I miss my kids. And usually that gets easier. But it hasn’t. So, I keep asking myself why do I work? I feel this whisper in my head saying, “You will never get these years back”.  So I just keep asking why?

missing her like whoa

~Hot. Summer just showed up and it is almost September. It has been the most mild summer with a rainy June and then a chilly, like sweatshirt chilly July.  And here I am back to work and can’t enjoy of the beaches daily with my kids and the weather finally gives us a reason to go there daily. Sigh…

~Ravinia. I am a Ravinia virgin but this Friday that all changes as we head there to see Alabama.  Country music, outdoor venue and some of my very best friends? Can you ask for much more to start Labor Day weekend? I don’t think so.

~I will have a two year this time next week. Please just make time stop

~Dinner Conversation that made my mama heart swell big and proud.

Brady: Dad how does the song go in the Wizard of Oz.

Glenn: (starts to sing)

Brady: In the Wizard of Oz, the scarecrow didn’t have a brain right?

Glenn and I: Right. What did the Tin Man have missing buddy? Do you remember?

Brady: A heart. What about the lion? What was he missing again?

Glenn: Courage. He was scared a lot.

Brady: But that’s okay as long as he is nice right? Nice to everyone.

Me: That’s right buddy. Being kind is the most important thing.

Happy Monday Friends! Sorry there are no pics. Adjusting to real life has made picking up my camera really really hard lately….sigh!  Five day week and then a three day weekend and three day week. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can.
